Over-under-through course

Cushion over, blanket tunnel under, between chair legs through — three stations in a loop. You set it once; they run it.

Reach for this when

they're trying to climb the couch or coffee table and you want a yes that isn't "get down".

What you need

  • Two couch cushions (step-over)
  • Table + blanket or play tunnel (under)
  • Two chairs 18 inches apart (through)
  • Pillow pile (optional fourth station)

How to play

  1. Lay cushions flat — step over, not up a wobbly tower. Under-2: knee-high max.
Toddler stepping over flat cushions on the floor
  2. Tunnel: blanket over table or pop-up tunnel — crawl only, no standing on the table.
Toddler crawling through a hoop tunnel with a parent nearby
  3. Through: two sturdy chairs, space for shoulders — "through the gate."
Blanket held between two adults to make a crawl-through gate
  4. Walk the loop once at their speed. Second lap: you time with a whisper count, not a lecture.

Whisper-count the second lap — no lecture.
  5. Collapse in order: tunnel first, cushions back on couch, pillows to bedroom.

If it flops

Stuck on one station? Remove that station and run a two-stop loop — over cushion, through chairs. Add tunnel back tomorrow.
